New Opportunities for Solicitors was the theme of the 2015 conference.
Brian Kearney’s presentation about the profitable use of Service Company’s by Solicitors was well received. A new and innovative way to look at working and maximising pension relief's in the run up to retirement. His slides are here. His website is here.
Nick Ashmore presented on the SBCI. They offer SMEs including Solicitors and their clients’ long-term working capital and capital investment finance through a number of lending partners, initially AIB and Bank of Ireland. There was much debate about this model of lending with many attendees challenging the banks competence to assess their applications. An excellent robust defence of the banking system was delivered in response to attendee's questions. Nick's notes are here.
An excellent lunch was served by the Law Society.
After Lunch, Nichola Priestley & Maggie Hunter of Ulster Bank dealt with the causes and effects of Fraud and measures that can be taken to prevent what is increasingly becoming a major problem. This was an eye-opener. You can see their presentation here.
Finally, Antoinette Moriarty of the Law Society drew on the latest psychological research to illustrate the power and freedom that comes when professional practice is founded upon professional well being.
